Residents at a mobile home park south of the fire were told to shelter in place, according to Van Elgort.

Fire crews are staged at the mobile home park and nearby homes, Van Elgort said.

Light wind through the area contributed to the moderate spread of the blaze, he said.

Homeless people who were living in the area were evacuated, Van Elgort said.

No injuries were reported, he said.

No structures were threatened and no evacuations were called for, Van Elgort said.

The blaze has resulted in heavy traffic on southbound East Capitol Expressway as of shortly before 5 p.m., according to Van Elgort.
