Brush Fire Burns In Santa Cruz County State Park

SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- Cal Fire crews were battling a brush fire that started this morning in Big Basin Redwoods State Park in Santa Cruz County.

The fire, reported at about 7:30 a.m., covered 3 to 5 acres in an area with redwood trees, small timber and dry brush...but fire crews managed to stop the spread of the flames.

Heavy dry fuel on the ground will likely continue to smolder for sometime...that's not the kind of thing that can be extinguished easily.

Cal Fire's Santa Clara County division is fighting the blaze along with the agency's firefighters in Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties.

So far the cause is unknown.
