Brentwood Armed Robbers Strike 5 Times In Less Than 90 Minutes
BRENTWOOD (KPIX 5) -- Police in Brentwood said they are searching for a group of young men who are suspected of committing five armed robberies in a span of less than an hour-and-a-half Thursday night.
According to police, the suspects are in their teens or early twenties and wore dark hooded sweatshirts. All of the victims were robbed at gunpoint.
The five robberies took place on the south side of Brentwood around 8:18 p.m. and 9:35 p.m., police said.
A neighbor told KPIX 5 that two of the victims were 13-year-old boys who were walking home from the McDonald's on Balfour Road.
The boys said the attackers sprang out of the bushes and chased both of them down the sidewalk. One of the victims was attacked with pepper spray to the face, while the other boy's cellphone was stolen.
Most of the attacks were on residential streets, in a community where violent crime is extremely rare.
The suspects were armed with a semiautomatic handgun. They robbed the victims of cell phones and other personal items. One victim hurt his knee, but otherwise, nobody else was hurt.
"You're just in awe because it doesn't usually happen. It's scary out there anymore. You have to be aware of your surroundings," said Donnie Herbert, a Brentwood resident.
Police said the suspects may have drove away in a sedan, possibly a Mazda or a Dodge Charger, with LED taillights.
