Bounce Houses Banned In Another East Bay Suburb
HERCULES (CBS SF) -- Bounce houses, the ubiquitous, brightly colored inflatable structures that have every kid kicking off their shoes and diving into the billowy bliss, are now banned at city parks in another East Bay suburb.
"We just don't want the liability risk of what a bounce house brings," said Hercules councilman Dan Romero after the meeting last Tuesday.
While perfectly legal on private property, the city will be patrolling its parks to make sure illicit bouncing doesn't occur, and the council is drafting an ordinance allowing police to fine anyone setting up a bounce house.
City leaders say city insurance would not cover if a child got injured.
Jonathan Ventura rented a house for his son's birthday recently, not knowing the rule.
"I mean it's a bummer," he told KPIX 5's Mark Kelly. "You think the kids would enjoy it a lot more at the park, but we can't do it here. [It] kinda sucks."
El Cerrito, San Pablo, Vallejo, and Danville have similar bans on bounce houses in city parks.
