Body Of Missing Santa Rosa Attorney Washes Ashore In Bodega Bay
BODEGA BAY (CBS SF) -- The body of a 56-year-old man that washed ashore in Bodega Bay Monday has been identified as the attorney who was representing Sonoma County in the civil rights violation lawsuit filed by the parents of Andy Lopez. Lopez, 13, was fatally shot by a sheriff's deputy in October 2013.
The Sonoma County Sheriff Coroner's Office said Tuesday that Santa Rosa resident Steven Mitchell's body was discovered on Monday morning near Bodega Dunes, south of Salmon Creek.
Mitchell's family has been informed of his death and the Coroner's Office has scheduled a forensic pathologist to perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of his death.
Mitchell went missing after having been last seen around 9 a.m. February 13th in Santa Rosa. He was reported missing by his wife around 8 p.m. that night.
Officials say Mitchell's wife called the sheriff's office again around 7 a.m. on February 14th to report her husband's cellphone was last used in the Bodega Bay area.
Park rangers spotted his car around 8 p.m. on February 14th and continued to search the area for Mitchell on February 15th, but soon suspended their search.
