Black California License Plates Finally Available For Car Lovers
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Classic car lovers in California can rejoice in the news that brand new versions of those iconic black license plates are finally available for ordering.
Legislation introduced the Legacy License Plate program a few years ago, offering car owners to purchase replicas of California plates like those issued in the 1950s, '60s, and '70s, but only the 1960's era plates gathered the required 7,500 order minimum before 2015.
The new program will not replace the Year of Manufacture program that lets drivers use real classic plates from the era when their car was produced.
The California DMV began accepting orders for the new black plates last week.
The legacy plates are available for any year model car.
