Beyoncé Concert At Levi's Could Draw Fans And Protesters
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- Making her first return to the Bay Area since her controversial halftime performance for Super Bowl 50, Beyoncé could be greeted by angry protesters and adoring fans in Santa Clara Monday night.
Some 44,000 members of the R&B stars so called "Beyhive" will be making their way to Levis Stadium.
But not everyone is excited about the artist's return to the South Bay.
Beyoncé's performance of her song "Formation" during the Super Bowl 50 halftime show in early February provoked some strong reactions with its references to police brutality and the black lives matter movement.
To add to the controversy, her dancers shared pictures on social media paying homage to the Black Panthers. Another photo displayed a sign reading, "Justice for Mario Woods," the man armed with a knife who San Francisco police officers shot in December.
All that transpired after the singer asked for a CHP escort to the stadium.
Several sources from different local law enforcement agencies in Northern California say a lot of officers don't care for Beyonce and her political stance.
In fact, a group of law enforcement in her hometown of Houston protested outside her concert last week.
Santa Clara Police Chief Michael Sellers told KPIX 5 his department was staying out of the controversy. Their main concern is keeping everyone safe.
"We have to be professional. We have to set our own personal feelings aside, said Sellers. We have a job to do there. Number one priority is security."
What remains to be seen is if Beyoncé's Formation Tour inspires a formation of protests.
