Best Water Slides In The East Bay

During the summer months, San Francisco is notorious for its cool, foggy weather, requiring most visitors to wear jackets throughout their stay. But over in the East Bay, it's a completely different picture, with temperatures often scorching over 90 degrees amid clear blue skies, especially in the inland areas. It should then come as no surprise that the majority of water parks and its associated attractions like water slides and lazy rivers are located in the eastern region of the San Francisco Bay Area. For those looking for a place to cool off or just looking for a new place to visit over the summer, here's a look at five of the best water parks with water slides in the East Bay.

Antioch WaterPark

With local temperatures averaging over 85 degrees all summer, kids and parents alike will be spending plenty of time at the Antioch WaterPark to stay active and stay cool. Located at Prewett Family Park with plenty of onsite parking, the city-operated park features four adult water slides and a kiddie slide suitable for younger children. Additionally, Antioch WaterPark also has a six lane lap pool used for recreational swimming and fitness classes, a sport pool with a Lily Pad bridge and a Tad Pool for the park's youngest guests.

Lying on three acres within Fremont's enormous Central Park, Aqua Adventure Waterpark has five water slides, along with a lap pool and a lazy river for tubing. All four of the larger slides filter out like tentacles from a single structure known as the Candle Lighters Fortress of Fun, which is easily the most visible structure in the park. Adjacent to the waterslides is the Roundabout River, which encircles the smaller water slide at Bucket Bay. The park also offers food and beverages for purchase at the Grill, a retail store, cabana and hut rentals and a picnic area.

With the anticipated hottest weather at inland cities of the East Bay like San Ramon, the city's Olympic Pool & Aquatic Center will be brimming with activity all summer. Located on the California High School campus and managed by the city's Parks and Community Services department, this spacious water park offers an eight-lane Olympic size alongside the primary water slide, an eight lane lap pool and a play structure pool with a smaller slide for younger children. Open seasonally through September 25, the Olympic Pool & Aquatic Center offers daily, multi-visit and seasonal passes and can be purchased in person or online.

While most aquatic centers with water slides are of the outdoor variety, there are a few exceptions. Located one mile west from NewPark Mall, is 32,000 square foot indoor water park at the Silliman Activity Center. A popular spot for families with children of all ages, the lively water park has two water slides, a lazy river, four-lane lap pool, activity pool and a warm spa for up to 15 people. Of the two water slides, the tallest rises 20 feet above the pool deck and riders must access a flight of stairs to reach the starting point. Silliman Aquatic Center offers a full range of day and extended use passes and is available for private parties or other special events.

Home to more than 30 world-class attractions, Waterworld California has more waterslides than any other water park in the entire Bay Area. Residing on 35 acres, the popular East Bay water park features nine world-class water slides, such as the Break Point Plunge, with its signature trap door and 270-foot plunge and The Big Kahuna, with a capacity of four, is the largest slide of its kind in the Bay Area. For families with younger children, the park offers three sets of family slides at the Wild Water Kingdom. Other park attractions include the Bay Area's largest wave pool and Northern California's longest lazy river. Waterworld California is equipped with hundreds of poolside lounge chairs and several poolside cabanas for rent. Although the daily general admission rate is higher than other Bay Area water parks, the standard season passes, which includes two bring a friend-free passes pays for itself in just two visits.
