Trendiest Halloween Costumes of 2014
Need some inspiration for this season's Halloween costume? Look no further than this year's popular movies and TV shows. Whether you're looking to buy a pre-made costume or create your own stylish outfit, stay on trend with a pop culture-inspired Halloween costume.
Frozen
Whether you are planning a costume for a child or are a child at heart, Frozen has captured the hearts of millions. Dress your little one up as either Elsa or Anna by styling her hair (or buying a wig) with hair ribbons (as Anna) or in a long braid (as Elsa). Going as a character from Frozen also means your daughter (or you!) gets to dress up in a beautiful dress, too. While there's technically no Prince Charming in this Disney movie, another costume option is to dress as the lovable snowman Olaf.
Maleficent
Channel the persona of an evil queen by dressing up as Angelina Jolie's character (or the original Disney cartoon), Maleficent. Either way, you can wear a stunning black dress and crown, complete with black wings. Don't forget a scepter to complete the outfit.
Game of Thrones
There are plenty of colorful "Game of Throne" characters to choose from (and ones that still have their heads) in this drama. Guys can keep it simple and dress up all in black to become Jon Snow or one of the Night's Watch. Or, if you'd rather be Jaime Lannister, hide one of your arms. For gals, lead your own Dothraki army by dressing as Daenerys; plus, dragons are the perfect accessory while wearing one of her beautiful, airy gowns. Even better, if you have kids who'd love nothing more than to dress up as a fiery dragon, you can turn the costume theme into one the whole family can join in.
Hunger Games
This will be the third year now—at least—that Katniss Everdeen goes trick-or-treating, and why not? She's a powerful heroine who's stylish whether she's wearing her District 12 "Hunger Games" outfit or one of Cinna's magnificent creations. Be sure to celebrate the release of the first of the two "Mockingjay" movies this year by wearing a mockingjay pin or watch. If you are looking for something a little different how about recreating one of Effie Trinket's crazy masterpieces?
The Lego Movie
Get creative this year and be inspired by "The Lego Movie." This may be one of the more crafty costumes of the year, because the best of these outfits are handmade using everything from cardboard boxes to cement form tubes. The end result? Something pretty priceless.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
They may have been first popular in the '80s and '90s, but they're back in the spotlight with their latest movie. Slather yourself in green face paint, or make it less messy by going for a full blown costume, including turtle shell, green mask, bandana and all. You can also find vintage adult tees to wear while the kids are trick-or-treating.
Spiderman
Spiderman is a superhero that never goes out of style, thanks to all the movies dedicated to the super-powered arachnid. Whether you dress up in skintight clothing, or buy a Spidey costume, this one's a classic as well as topical yet again.
Captain America
Show off your patriotic pride—and your muscles—with a one-piece red, white and blue jumpsuit. But the Captain America outfit isn't just for boys; many Halloween outlets also offer Captain America dresses for girls, too. Either way, the shield is a must.
What will you be dressing up for Halloween this year?
