Thanksgiving is a time when many families and loved ones get together to give thanks and enjoy a delicious holiday meal. But hosting a Thanksgiving celebration at home can take several hours of preparation and plenty of dishwashing following the feast. For a nice and rewarding change of pace, why not dine out and enjoy the extra time to spend with your family and friends? Here are five of the best restaurants in the Bay Area that are open for Thanksgiving. Also check out some other great restaurants that are open on Turkey Day.

The Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay will host exceptional Thanksgiving dining at three different locations at the resort. The first is the Thanksgiving Brunch in the Ritz-Carlton Ballroom featuring traditional Thanksgiving fare and live music from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost to attend the holiday brunch is $130 per person, $65 for children ages 5 to 12 and complimentary for children under 4 years old. The resort's Conservatory Lounge will begin serving traditional Thanksgiving offerings in addition to the regular menu from 12 p.m. and until 9 p.m. Lastly, a five-course prix-fixe menu will be offered at the beachfront resort's Navio restaurant, priced at $128 per person with optional wine pairings.

Located in the charming East Bay community of Danville, the Blackhawk Grille will once again host its annual Thanksgiving dinner. For just $44 per person, the award-winning restaurant led by executive chef Jason Bergeron will present a splendid three-course meal, with multiple options for each course. Good choices include the Blackhawk caesar, goat cheese and portabella strudel, slow roasted turkey breast, pan roasted true cod and pumpkin cheesecake. The Blackhawk Grille also has an exceptional Thanksgiving takeout order menu and orders must be received no later than November 21.

A Michelin Bib Gourmand selection for five consecutive years, Berkeley's FIVE Restaurant and Bar will be the scene for a bountiful Thanksgiving celebration from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. With a special emphasis on farm-fresh California cuisine, the holiday menu crafted by executive chef Stephane Tonnelier is just $58 per person and $25 for children ages 6 to 12. Guests will have a choice of appetizers, a main course, sides and deserts. Sample dishes from the engaging menu include warm smoked salmon tart, pan seared crab cake, turkey breast stuffed with chard and vegetarian pumpkin with wild rice, sautéed zucchini, mushroom medley and pickled cranberries. One of San Francisco's top luxury hotels is hosting a surprisingly affordable Thanksgiving dinner. Guests can enjoy a lavish four-course meal prepared by the hotel's award-winning executive chef Adam Mali, whose previous experience included an externship at Restaurant Gary Danko. The Thanksgiving dinner is priced at $85 with an optional wine pairing for $45 and a children's menu for guests under 10 years old for $25. Among the featured dishes on the Thanksgiving menu are roasted butternut squash soup, roasted turkey breast, roasted Creekstone Farms filet of beef and roasted d'Anjou pear crumble.

With breathtaking views of the Napa Valley, guests can enjoy an exquisite four-course Thanksgiving dinner at the Michelin-starred Restaurant at Auberge du Soleil. Led by acclaimed executive chef Robert Curry, the restaurant's Thanksgiving menu will feature a number of intricately prepared dishes, such as heirloom apple and radicchio salad, Willie Bird turkey with quince stuffing, cabernet braised beef short rib and chocolate galette. The prix fixe menu is $120 per guest and $55 for children under 12. The Restaurant at Auberge du Soleil will seat continuously on Thanksgiving from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
