Bay Area to get more intense rain Sunday night into Monday; thunderstorms possible

First Alert Weather Sunday morning forecast 12-17-23

Rain in the Bay Area will begin Sunday, but residents can expect it to be light rain, with scattered showers, the National Weather Service said.

More intense precipitation will arrive Sunday night, and there is a possibility of gusty winds and thunderstorms, with moderate risks likely in the North Bay, SF Peninsula, Santa Cruz and Big Sur.

Nuisance roadway flooding is the most likely impact in affected areas, according to the weather service. A small stream flood advisory was issued at 12:39 p.m. Sunday in the North Bay, from Cloverdale down through Santa Rosa. The advisory was in effect until 1:45 p.m, with people being told to watch for minor flooding, especially on highways, streets and underpasses.

That round of rain will continue into Monday, which the NWS expects to be the most affected day during the projected onset of rains this week.

The wet weather will then likely last through Thursday.
