Bear Attacks Man Camping In SoCal Campground

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Authorities say a man is recovering after being injured by a bear at a Los Angeles-area campground.

The sheriff's office reports a small bear tried to enter the man's tent at the Millard Campground above Altadena Saturday at about 2 a.m. Authorities say the camper was looking at his iPad and that his tent collapsed as the bear tried to get in.

Two other campers reported seeing a bear weighing about 120 pounds flee the area.

The man did not know he was injured until he felt something dripping from his face. Investigators say it appears the bear scratched the man on his forehead. He was taken to a local hospital and required 18 stitches to close the wound.

The Millard Campground is being closed for 72 hours.
