Bay Lights Fans Can Watch Artist Reprogram Display Before Unveiling
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Fans of the Bay Lights installation can watch the art in the making for the next few days in San Francisco.
Artist Leo Villareal is reprogramming the light sculpture ahead of its official permanent unveiling.
Villareal has been programming the light display from Pier 14 in San Francisco.
"This is our custom software, which gives us real-time control of the lights. I can control velocity, acceleration, mass and gravity, all sorts of things," Villareal said.
The unveiling early next year will kick off the festivities leading up to Super Bowl 50.
"The process of creating the bay lights has been all about being comfortable sharing the process and giving people little glimpses of what it would be. So for the next few nights I'll be here working on it, and then I'll be back in January for more work, and finally on January 30th we'll unveil it permanently."
