BART Approves Budget For Longer, More Frequent Trains On East Bay Lines
OAKLAND (KCBS)— BART's Board of Directors passed a new $1.6 billion budget Thursday that promises longer and more frequent trains for riders of two East Bay lines beginning in September.
BART trains will be getting longer than the current three cars for Pittsburg/Bay Point and Fremont lines, but officials say the changes should also improve overall service.
The directors say the increase is motivated by record ridership and plan on spending the money increasing passenger capacity and improving on-time performance.
The plan includes the addition of 30 more train cars during peak ridership periods and 16 additional train trips per weekday.
