Bad Weather Causes #FedExFail - Customers Still Waiting For Christmas Gifts

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- 'Twas the day after Christmas...

And some people were still waiting for their FedEx packages to arrive.

Frustrated customers took to social media to complain -- so much so, the hashtag #FedExFail was trending.

One person wrote, "So much for the guaranteed 2-day delivery! I want my money back."

While others came to the carrier's defense.

"They can't control the weather."

"Did you wait until the last minute to place your order?"

Pre-Christmas storms in the South and deadly tornadoes slowed deliveries.

Employees who volunteered to work, delivered thousands of packages on Christmas day. The company even opened some pick-up centers on Christmas morning for customers to get their packages.

But for Aristedes Sanabia, it was all too late. He picked up a gift for his father the day after Christmas that was supposed to be delivered by Christmas Eve.

"It's a little disappointing," said Sanabia.

FedEx shipped a record-breaking 317 million packages between Black Friday and Christmas Eve. That's a 12 percent increase since last year sparked by a surge in online orders.

FedEx officials said they're still catching up with Christmas deliveries, but rival UPS boasted it had finished making its 630 million deliveries by 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

That's because UPS air hub is at the Louisville International Airport in Louisville, Kentucky, so bad weather wasn't an issue.

Customers still waiting for FedEx packages can track them on the company's website.
