Attempted Burglary In Richmond Ends In Deadly Shooting
RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- An attempted burglary in Richmond early Friday, ended in deadly gunfire. The intruder is now dead.
It happened near 13th and Coalinga in Richmond. Sources say neighbors fear retaliation.
A 71-year-old man was shot several times. Another man was killed.
Police said it all started when four men tried to break into a plumbing business around 1 a.m.
"We believe their intention was to commit a burglary," said Captain Mark Gagin. "The homeowner, the victim, defended himself...gunfire was exchanged between both parties, injuring the homeowner and killing one of the suspects."
Noe Pineda is the general manager of the plumbing business that just bought the building from the 71-year-old owner and though he says his business has nothing to do with what happened last night, he's now afraid of retaliation.
Police said plumbing businesses are becoming common burglary targets because they contain precious metals.
In addition to the suspect who was killed, police have the 3 other suspects in custody. Even if they didn't pull the trigger on their friend, they still may be charged with murder for being a party to the original crime of burglary.
The suspected burglar who was killed is identified as 28-year old Pierre Andre Reddick of Richmond.
