1 Dead In Union City Apartment Fire

UNION CITY (CBS SF) -- One person was killed in a fire at a Union City apartment complex Thursday afternoon, according to fire officials.

The fire was reported at 4:25 p.m. in a carport at an apartment at Alvarado-Niles Road and Hartnell St., according to an Alameda County Fire Department dispatcher.

The fire was later upgraded to two alarms this afternoon, according to the fire department.

Firefighters arrived to find a carport burning at the four-unit complex, fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said. The fire spread to the main building.

Knowles confirmed one person died in the fire but did not immediately have further details.
