As Workforce Expands At Tesla Motors, Company Is Hiring More Veterans
PALO ALTO (KCBS) – Tesla Motors is not only looking to be at the forefront of the electric car movement, but also becoming a leading employer of veterans.
The company now has over 6,000 employees and of those, 5 percent are American military veterans.
One of those is Jared Bayer, who served in the Air Force.
"Oh yeah, work is good. It makes the day go by a lot easier. Trust me, I love it," he said.
Tesla officials said there are plans to hire an additional 600 veterans to its workforce in the coming months.
Sharon Winston, Executive Director of Project HIRED, which helps wounded warriors find jobs, said Tesla is not the only high tech company that realizes the value of veterans as employees.
"Every single one of them is committed to a clear understanding – we've got to help the individuals that are returning after the service that they've given to their country," Winston said.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, Tesla Motors is not only aggressively hiring veterans, the company is also trying to create a culture where they feel supported and appreciated once on board, helping them transition back to the civilian world.
