Armed Suspect Robs Man Of Backpack Near UC Berkeley Campus
BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- A suspect who was armed with a gun robbed a man of his backpack in downtown Berkeley early Saturday morning, police said.
The victim, a man in his 30s, was walking in the area of Channing Way and Fulton Street just south of the University of California at Berkeley campus at about 12:15 a.m. on Saturday when the armed suspect approached him, according to police.
The suspect took the man's backpack and then ran south on Atherton Street away from Channing Way, police said. The victim wasn't hurt during the encounter.
City of Berkeley and University of California at Berkeley police searched the area but couldn't locate the suspect, authorities said.
Police described the suspect as a black man in his 20s standing about 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs around 160 pounds and has a thin build. He was last seen wearing dark clothing and a black beanie.
