Armed Robbery Suspect Who Prompted Shutdown Of I-880 In Fremont Arrested
FREMONT (CBS SF) – A man who witnesses said acted erratically at a Starbucks in Fremont and who prompted a shutdown of Interstate 880 last month has been arrested on suspicion of armed robbery.
Police caught up with 20-year old Deandre McLeod near his mom's house in San Leandro. As he was being taken to jail, McLeod allegedly tried to bribe officers to fake his escape.
According to witnesses, the suspect ran into a Starbucks on Mowry Avenue on the night of October 16th. They said he appeared paranoid and yelled out his drink order for a Vanilla Bean Frappuccino.
"I said 'Hey man, here's your change,' and he comes up to me and I hand him his change, and the hand that he's grabbing the change with is bleeding," Spenser Fuller, work worked at the Starbucks, told KPIX 5 that night.
After ordering his drink, witnesses said the suspect hid in the coffee shop's bathroom for half an hour before taking off in a getaway car.
The freeway was shut down for hours while police searched for McLeod in the bushes.
