Armed Man Surrenders After 6-Hour Standoff In Marin County

GREENBRAE (CBS SF) -- An armed man was taken into custody Monday night after he barricaded himself inside a home in a hilly Greenbrae neighborhood adjacent to U.S. Highway 101, a police spokeswoman said.

Officers responded to a domestic dispute involving a husband and wife in the 300 block of Via La Cumbre at about 2:45 p.m., Central Marin Police Authority Sgt. Julie Gorwood said.

The 72-year-old man barricaded himself inside the residence, and a special response team was called in along with a crisis team, Gorwood said.

The man remained holed up in the house until shortly before 9 p.m. when negotiators talked him into surrendering peacefully, Gorwood said.

He was taken into custody and investigators were interviewing him Monday evening but had not yet determined what criminal charges he might face, if any, Gorwood said.

Via La Cumbre was shut down during the police response and as of
about 9:30 p.m. police were still on scene but expected to reopen the road shortly, Gorwood said.

There were no injuries reported.
