Tim Cook Tells Colbert Why He Came Out As Gay

NEW YORK (CBS SF) -- In his first television interview about his decision to come out to the public, Tim Cook got personal on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" Tuesday night.

Last year, Cook became the first openly gay CEO of a Fortune 500 company.

"It became so clear to me that kids were getting bullied in school, kids were basically getting discriminated against, kids were even being disclaimed by their own parents," Cook said. "I needed to do something. And where I value my privacy significantly, I felt I was valuing it too far above what I could do for other people. And so I wanted to tell everyone my truth."

Cook added that he is driven by his desire to make the world a better place.

Colbert concluded the conversation by allowing Siri to pose the final question.

He asked, "Siri, what should I ask Tim Cook?"

She responded with, "Do me a favor. Ask him when I'm going to get a raise."
