Woman Found Dead In Ex-Husband's Trunk Leaves Antioch Police Stumped

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- Police have yet to make any arrests in their investigation into the death of a woman who was found in the trunk of her ex-husband's car last week in Antioch, authorities said Tuesday.

It was the woman's ex-husband who reported the death at 4:22 p.m. on Friday in the 2200 block of Belle Court, Antioch police said.

He told officers that he found the woman, identified as 50-year-old Pittsburg resident Cheryl White, dead in the trunk of his Toyota Camry, according to police.

Police said during later interviews the man admitted he left her to sleep in the car's passenger seat at about 3 a.m. that day after they had used some drugs together.

The man told investigators he knew White moved to the car's trunk herself upon checking on her around 12:30 p.m., according to police.

He allegedly said he confirmed she was fine and left her alone so she could continue sleeping in there.

This is something she has done in the past, the man told investigators, because she felt safe and wouldn't get harassed in the car's trunk, police said.

Police said there were no signs of foul play immediately found and an autopsy performed Monday did not determine "any obvious cause of death."

Testing is still being done in hopes of revealing what White died from, police said. The testing could take weeks to complete.

The woman's ex-husband, whose identity was not provided, has not been arrested, police said.

The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office will have an opportunity to review the case once all test results are ready, police said.

No further details were immediately available.
