Anthem Blue Cross To Cover Sonoma County Cancer Patient After KPIX 5 Report
SONOMA COUNTY (KPIX 5) -- Anthem Blue Cross told the family of a Sonoma County man that they will cover his cancer treatment, after KPIX 5 reported that they received a letter denying coverage.
Jeffrey Rusch of Camp Meeker has more than 20 tumors in his brain, along with tumors in his lungs, liver, and bones.
Doctors ordered Rusch to be hospitalized immediately and to undergo emergency chemotherapy. Soon after he was hospitalized, his family received a letter saying the medical stay was not medically necessary.
"It's like an attack on my family. It feels that way," Zoe Keating, Rusch's wife told KPIX 5 in a report that aired Wednesday night.
On Thursday morning, Keating said she received a phone call from Anthem, saying the insurer will cover the hospital stay.
The family said they have been members of Anthem since 2008 and have paid $100,000 in premiums.
