Amtrak Train Hits, Kills Man Walking Along Tracks In Richmond

RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- An Amtrak train fatally struck a man walking on the tracks with an unidentified woman in Richmond Saturday afternoon, a police lieutenant said.

Witnesses reported that the man was possibly walking with a cane alongside a woman on the tracks a short time before 2 p.m. in the area of Cutting and Carlson boulevards, Richmond police Lt. Andre Hill said.

The intersection is a major thoroughfare for vehicles and has a crosswalk that spans the tracks. Hill said the man may have been walking across the tracks when his cane got stuck in the path of the train.

The Amtrak train conductor and witnesses at the scene are being interviewed and the collision remains under investigation.

The unidentified woman who was seen walking with the victim is urged to reach out to police.
