West Coast Tsunami Threat Being Assessed After 8.0 Alaska Earthquake
(CBS SF) -- The threat of a tsunami in California and the west coast was still being assessed Monday afternoon following an 8.0 earthquake along the western tip of Alaska's Aleutian Islands, according to officials.
The state Office of Emergency Services said on its Twitter feed that there was no warning or alert for the U.S. West Coast from the Alaska quake.
The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration's National Tsunami Warning Center said coastal areas of the western Aleutian Islands were under a tsunami warning but that the tsunami threat for the Pacific Coast of the U.S. and Canada was still being evaluated.
The NOAA's Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no currently no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
