Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy On Paid Leave After Fatally Shooting Robbery Suspect In Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- An Alameda County Sheriff's deputy is on paid administrative leave after fatally shooting a man in East Oakland.

Officers driving near 55th and Fairfax avenues around 4 a.m. spotted a vehicle wanted in connection with a July 12 home invasion robbery and pistol whipping in the 4700 block of MacArthur Boulevard.

After officers called the Sheriff's Department for help, the suspect was spotted. One of the deputies then shot the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene according to Oakland Police Officer Johnna Watson.

No officers or deputies were injured in the incident.

Investigators are not revealing exactly what led to the shooting, but they do say the home invasion on July 12 included a pistol whipping.

The Oakland Police Department's Homicide Section, along with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office and the sheriff's office are investigating the shooting.
