A 31-year-old man faces 7 years in prison after being found guilty of physically and sexually assaulting his partner in 2023, according to prosecutors.

The Alameda County District Attorney's office said Monday that a jury issued guilty verdicts against Carlos Gomez-Avalos for one count of forced oral copulation and one count of corporal injury on a relationship partner.

Prosecutors said evidence showed Gomez-Avalos attacked his female victim physically and sexually after she returned home. The victim had visible marks on her face and neck after the assault.

"Data from the CDC's National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey indicates that about 41% of women experienced sexual violence by intimate partner during their lifetime," said District Attorney Pamela Price in a prepared statement. "That is why my office remains focused on prosecuting serious cases and providing services to survivors of domestic violence in Alameda County."

Gomez-Avalos is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 25.
