Collision Between ACE Train, Vehicle In Fremont Results In Fatality

FREMONT (CBS SF) -- Train traffic is badly congested in the East Bay Monday morning after an Altamont Corridor Express train struck a vehicle in Fremont, resulting in a death, ACE officials said.

"There's a lot of congestion backed up—our trains, Capitol Corridor, freight," ACE spokesman Chris Kay said. "It's going to be a couple hours."

ACE officials initially reported on Twitter at 6:15 a.m. about a "vehicle strike" involving ACE train 1 between the Fremont and Great America stations.

Fremont police said the collision occurred about a half-mile north of the Auto Mall Parkway crossing south of Stevenson Boulevard.

At 7:41 a.m., ACE officials reported the death and said all ACE trains would be further delayed while the Alameda County coroner's bureau responded.

Trains began moving again shortly after 9:15 a.m., but significant delays can be expected on the railway.

ACE runs four westbound trains in the morning from Stockton to San Jose.

Additional details about the fatality were not immediately available.
