81-Year-Old Larkspur Woman Dies After Being Hit By Car In Downtown San Rafael

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) - An elderly woman who was running errands in downtown San Rafael has died in the hospital after being hit in a busy downtown intersection.

The Marin Independent Journal reports that 81-year-old Beatrice Sanchez was likely heading between an optometry appointment and Whole Foods Market at 4:15 p.m. when she was hit a Third and Irwin streets, a crossing where freeway off-ramp traffic and downtown driver s merge.

Sanchez was taking to Marin General Hospital where she died. The driver of the cargo van involved in the wreck stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, according to the paper. The crash remains under investigation.
