7-Foot-Long Burmese Python Found Under Car Near Pescadero School
SAN MATEO COUNTY (CBS SF) -- Authorities are investigating how a 7-foot-long Burmese python ended up under a car parked outside of a school in Pescadero on Friday afternoon.
A deputy on patrol at Pescadero Elementary and Middle School at 620 North St. noticed a large snake under a parked car at 3:13 p.m. Friday.
The snake was 7 feet long, 4.5 inches wide, weighs about 40 pounds and was first determined to be a red tail boa constrictor, sheriff's officials said. It was later identified as a Burmese python by the Peninsula Humane Society.
The snake does not appear to be socialized, is somewhat aggressive and has undetermined skin issues, according to Peninsula Humane Society spokesman Scott Delucchi.
Burmese pythons are not poisonous and are not considered a major threat to humans.
Investigators said they do not know where the snake came from or who it belongs to.
The animal was turned over to the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA.
