6th Grader Stuck At Stanford Hospital Recovering From Leukemia, Gets A Holiday 'Get Well' Video From His Classmates
FORT BRAGG (CBS SF ) -- It looks like they're posing for a typical group photo, with students and their teachers. Then, one-by-one, the students started to speak.
"Hi Iron Man, it's your friend Jonathan. Hope you get better," said one youngster.
'Iron Man' is Nicolas Queen, a sixth grade boy recovering from leukemia and he's getting a wonderful holiday gift from his classmates at Ft. Bragg Middle School.
After a successful bone marrow transplant, Nicolas has to spend the holidays at Stanford Medical Center, far away from his classmates. To cheer him up, the kids organized a read-a-thon in the school auditorium, and then made a videotape of themselves sending Nick 'get well' wishes.
"Hey Nick, we miss you and want you to have a wonderful holiday…. Hi Nick, playing games with you is super fun, so come back soon – I have to practice so you don't beat me… hey, it's your friend Johnny, I hope you come back soon… we all love you."
And so it went.
When Nick's mom, Kim Queen found out what the kids were planning, she was certainly surprised.
She said the community has given her son so much support in the form of fundraisers, now this.
"Nicolas is going to be thrilled to see his school pals on a video. As you can imagine, every day in the hospital seems like a week."
