580 Lanes Reopen After Fatal Multi-Car Accident In Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- All lanes have reopened on westbound Interstate Highway 580 in Oakland after a fatal multi-vehicle accident caused closures Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident was first reported at 11:18 p.m. Monday night near the East Fruitvale Avenue off ramp, CHP officials said.

A sig-alert was issued at 11:44 p.m. stating that all lanes were closed while emergency crews worked to clear the roadway.

CHP officials announced that the collision was a fatality around 12:04 a.m. this morning and stated that all traffic was being diverted off at Coolidge Avenue.

The sig-alert was cancelled as the roadway was reopened at 12:34 a.m., but CHP issued a correction at 12:39 a.m. stating that two right-hand lanes were still closed.

The sig-alert was cancelled at 3:40 a.m. as all lanes were declared open by CHP officials.
