$55,000 Raised From Farewell Dinner For Former CPUC President Michael Peevey Won't Go To UC School Of Public Policy
BERKELEY (CBS SF) – The University of California's Goldman School of Public Policy will not receive any of the money raised from a farewell dinner held last month for former California Public Utilities Commission President Michael Peevey.
The $250-a-plate dinner was held in San Francisco at the Julia Morgan Ballroom on February 12. Proceeds were to go to the Goldman School at UC Berkeley.
But UC Berkeley spokesperson Dan Mogulof tells U-T San Diego the school "is not going to receive a single penny from the event in question."
He failed to elaborate on that statement or the fact that Peevey no longer serves on the advisory board for the public policy school. Organizers of the dinner have not disclosed where that money will go.
The dinner was sharply criticized, as the CPUC and Pacific Gas & Electric face state and criminal investigations over thousands of emails between the two that supposedly showed favoritism between the commission and companies it is supposed to oversee.
Meanwhile, former San Diego City Attorney Michael Aguirre filed a lawsuit in San Francisco this week, asking a judge to require the University of California to provide documents in response to his California Public Records Act requests. U-T San Diego reports, the complaint claims university officials have failed to release any records or information related to the dinner.
The university said they have responded appropriately to Aguirre's request, but it would take some time to process the records.
