Thieves Steal $500K Worth Of Phone Chargers From Union City Warehouse
UNION CITY (CBS SF) -- A Union City electronics company became the latest Silicon Valley business burglarized for its high-tech gear.
The thieves cut out a a 2-foot by 3-foot hole in the metal loading door big enough to crawl through. UNU Electronics said three pallets full of phone accessories and portable battery packs were stolen.
The company claims the battery packs are in high demand because they are capable of doubling a phone's power charge in 15 minutes.
"Brand new innovation, fastest thing in the world," said Brian Westphal, chief marketing officer of UNU Electronics. "And it's going crazy. So we think robbers are going after this particular product."
The company estimates burglars stole 100 cases worth half a million dollars.
They are offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Burglaries of high tech companies have become a disturbing new crime problem.
Another surveillance video from San Francisco startup BuildZoom shows a thief looking around and finally taking off with some electronics.
Police investigators say lately there have been more reports of burglaries in tech businesses and warn customers to be on the lookout for unauthorized sales of the products.
