5 Ways Levi's Stadium Is Putting Tech To Work And Connecting 49ers Fans To Game Day Action
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- Levi's Stadium heavy reliance on tech is expected to not only solve a lot of the problems that come from jamming 70,000 people into one area, but also gives fans a game day experience unlike any other in NFL history.
Here's some of the innovative tech fans will see at the $1.2 billion stadium built from the ground up in Silicon Valley:
1. An interactive museum where visitors can cozy up to Colin Kaepernick and former players thanks to augmented reality. Fans can see Kaepernick do his signature bicep-smooching move, play motion sensing games and take in the trending display which features everything you visitors want to know about the team's recent success.
2. More than 1200 WiFi hot spots have been placed above and below seats to allow fans to share game day selfies and tweet without frustrating delays from anywhere in the stadium.
3. An app that offers ticket holders a slew of convenient features, like ordering a hot dog and beer without missing a moment of the game and even watching replays from 14 different angles. The app also tells you which bathroom has the shortest line and the quickest path from one stadium location to another.
4. Tech is also working to solve parking headaches with ticket holders receiving a video demonstration before game day of how to get to their parking spot.
5. And lastly, all players and game officials will be wired. The stadium has partnered with Zebra Technologies to equip players with RFID tags embedded inside players' shoulder pads. These smart tracking tags are incredibly sensitive and accurate and can give instantaneous information like players' speed, distance, acceleration. Levi's is one of the first in the league to be using this kind of tech. Here's a closer look:
The San Francisco 49ers will play the first NFL game at Levi's Stadium home Sunday, a preseason matchup against the Denver Broncos.
