5-Time DUI Offender Arrested Again In Sonoma County

SONOMA CO. (CBS SF) -- The California Highway Patrol arrested a Santa Rosa man with five DUI convictions on suspicion of another DUI Wednesday night.

A CHP officer saw a Dodge sedan driving 70 mph in a 55 mph zone on Stony Point Road near Pepper Road north of Petaluma around 8:30 p.m., CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

The officer stopped the Dodge that had accelerated and was weaving near Mecham Road, Sloat said.

The driver, identified as Joe Silva, 44, of Santa Rosa, said his license was suspended for DUI and he had five prior DUI convictions, Sloat said.

The officer saw a 24-ounce beer can on the car floor and a partially consumed pint of whiskey on the passenger seat, Sloat said.

Silver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and driving while suspended. Silver has 12 previous license suspensions and faces a felony charge of having four DUI arrests within a 10-year period, Sloat said.

Silva posted $100,000 bail this morning and is scheduled to appear in Sonoma County Superior Court Tuesday.
