Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake Shakes Northern California
UKIAH (CBS SF) -- A magnitude 5.1 earthquake was reported Tuesday evening in Northern California's Lake County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake struck roughly 11 miles north of Upper Lake, just minutes before 8 p.m. It was initially reported as magnitude 5.0 but then upgraded to a magnitude 5.1, according to the USGS.
The USGS reported that aftershocks of magnitude 2.7 and 3.0 hit the area following the 5.1 magnitude earthquake.
Upper Lake is located north of Clear Lake and is about a 25-mile drive from Ukiah.

No significant damage or injuries were immediately reported.
According to the Northern California Seismic System, which is operated by the University of California at Berkeley and the USGS, there is a 5 to 10 percent chance of an earthquake equal to or larger than the magnitude 5.1 mainshock in the next seven days.
