Based on a preliminary investigation, a group of people, one armed with a handgun, approached a man on Market Street and an altercation ensued, Shyy said.
The man was struck by gunfire and then ran into a nearby business. Emergency crews transported the man to a hospital for treatment, according to Shyy.
Following the shooting, police dispatchers received descriptions of a group of suspects who witnesses saw flee from the scene.
Officers soon located the suspects in the 400 block of Stevenson Street, about a block away, Shyy said.
