KTVU Reporter's Purse Stolen In Oakland While Covering A Crime Story

OAKLAND (KCBS) — A KTVU reporter in Oakland covering the city's crime beat on Monday night wound up becoming a victim herself when her television livetruck was burglarized and her purse stolen.

Heather Holmes, along with a videographer, was reporting on a story about a woman who was mugged at 48th Street and Shattuck Avenue and the Good Samaritans that helped her. They were right in front of Oakland Police Headquarters when her purse was stolen from vehicle.

Holmes is not the first reporter to be targeted by burglars in Oakland.

In March, thieves stole camera equipment out of a KTVU van parked in the city's Fruitvale neighborhood.

In another incident, a robber grabbed a camera that was being used in a live shot for a noon broadcast.

Several local TV stations including KTVU regularly send armed security guards with reporters and camera crews covering news in Oakland.
