339 Riders Banned From BART System For Domestic Violence, Drug Sales, Other Offenses

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Over 300 people have been banned from the BART system after the transit agency's law went into effect allowing them to issue stay-away orders.

From people convicted of domestic violence on BART platforms, to the infamous naked man who terrorized riders, a total of 339 people have made the list that bans them from the system.

"It gives us the ability to remove them, arrest them for trespassing," BART Police Lieutenant Terence McCarty said.

Here's a breakdown of the offenses that got people banned:

Stay Away Orders May 6, 2013 to December 31 2013:

  • Attempted Kidnapping  - 1
  • Robbery  - 16
  • Battery/Treats On Employees  - 20
  • Battery/Treats On Officers - 18
  • Domestic Battery - 37
  • Battery/Treats On Other Riders - 26
  • Sexual Battery - 1
  • Assault With Deadly Weapon - 2
  • Indecent Exposure - 11
  • Disturbing The Peace - 2
  • Brandishing A Weapon - 6
  • Drug Sales - 6

Total stay away orders - 146

Stay Away Orders January 1, 2013 to September 15, 2014:

  • Robbery  - 24
  • Battery/Treats On Employees  - 22
  • Battery/Treats On Officers - 24
  • Domestic Battery - 37
  • Battery/Treats On Other Riders - 38
  • Sexual Battery - 4
  • Assault With Deadly Weapon - 9
  • Child Abuse - 1
  • Indecent Exposure - 12
  • Brandishing A Weapon - 8
  • Lewd Conduct - 3
  • Annoying or molesting child under 18 - 1
  • Drug Sales - 10
