3 Alleged Street Gang Members Arrested In San Jose
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- San Jose police arrested three alleged street gang associates last weekend, including two reputed Norteno members and a juvenile who discarded a stolen gun when confronted by officers, police said.
At about 4 p.m. Saturday, four officers and a sergeant from the Police Department's Foothill division assigned to gang suppression patrolled apartment buildings on Lanai Avenue, Foxdale Loop and Kollmar Drive in East San Jose, Sgt. Heather Randol said.
At the Valley Palms Apartments at 2155 Lanai Ave., officers arrested two members of the Norteno criminal gang, one on suspicion of cocaine possession and another on felony warrants, Randol said.
Then at around 10:15 p.m., an officer from the department's Western division observed a juvenile drinking alcohol while jaywalking across a street in the area of West Alma Avenue and Stonegate Circle east of state Highway 87.
The officer recognized the juvenile as on probation for a conviction for assault with a deadly weapon, a crime committed based on orders from a street gang, Randol said.
When the officer contacted the minor, the suspect discarded a loaded pistol reported stolen from outside of California, police said.
The suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing a stolen handgun and was booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall, according to Randol.
