Bay Area Shut Out Of 2016 Nobel Prizes So Far
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – A number of Nobel Prizes have been awarded this week, and none of the winners are from the Bay Area.
The Bay Area has a rich history of Nobel Laureates, living and dead. Stanford has 32, Berkeley 22, and UCSF has five.
Between 2011 and 2013, Stanford, Cal and UCSF researchers collected a total of 8 Nobel Prizes. In fact, Stanford won for chemistry three years in a row. Since 2014, there have been no local Nobel Prize winners.
There is hope for this year still. On Monday, the Nobel Prize for Economics will be awarded, and Stanford's Edward P. Laxear is on the short list.
