2 Lead Deputies On Early Morning Chase In East San Jose

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies have arrested an individual suspected of stealing a car and leading deputies on a chase Monday morning.

At about 3:30 a.m., sheriff's deputies came across a vehicle they believed to be stolen near Tully and S. King roads, a sheriff's spokesman said.

Authorities told KPIX 5 that deputy ran the plates after the car pulled into a nearby Shell gas station.

When a tried to approach the driver, he took off, going down several local streets including McKee and Story Roads, Highway 101 and Interstate 680.

At one point, speeds reached about 100 miles per hour on the highway, authorities said.

Deputies used tire spikes to blow out the car's front right tire, but the driver started going on Interstate 680 in the wrong direction.

Authorities said the driver left the car on the embankment and took off, but a woman passenger in the car is being questioned by deputies.

A description of the suspect who left the scene has not been released.
