2-Story Apartment Building Damaged In Early Morning Santa Clara Fire

SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- Firefighters extinguished a one-alarm fire in a two-story apartment building in Santa Clara early Sunday morning, fire officials said.

The first report of the fire in the 2700 block of Homestead Road came in at 6:20 a.m., a fire dispatcher said.

The blaze was under control shortly after 7 a.m., the dispatcher said.

It appears the fire started in the kitchen of a ground floor unit, acting fire Battalion Chief Cal Monachino said.

The blaze did not spread past the unit where it started, and the fire displaced the unit's residents, according to Monachino.

A damage estimate was not available Sunday morning.

No injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
