2 South Bay Men Arrested For Transporting, Selling Marijuana
GEYSERVILLE (CBS SF) -- California Highway Patrol officers arrested two South Bay men for transporting and selling marijuana Tuesday evening.
CHP officers in three patrol cars were impounding a vehicle on the right shoulder of southbound U.S. Highway 101 near Canyon Road in Geyserville around 5:20 p.m. when they spotted the pot-laden truck, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.
The officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from a southbound Toyota Tacoma that passed by and officers in two patrol cars gave chase, Sloat said.
They caught up to the pickup, which was tailgating another vehicle at 65 mph near Independence Lane, Sloat said. The officers noticed an overwhelming smell of marijuana in the vehicle and the driver, Eric Smith, 25, of Soquel, admitted to having a 'few pounds' in the truck, Sloat said.
Officers found 99 pounds of processed and unprocessed marijuana in the bed of the truck as well as a methamphetamine pipe, brass knuckles and an unspent .32 caliber bullet, Sloat said.
Smith, a convicted felon, is prohibited from owning firearms and ammunition, and he was arrested on suspicion of transportation and sale of marijuana, and possession of ammunition, brass knuckles and drug paraphernalia, Sloat said.
A passenger in the Toyota, Dino Moschetti Jr., 29, of Aptos, was arrested on the marijuana, brass knuckles and drug paraphernalia charges, Sloat said.
