2 Oakland Officers Implicated In Bizarre, Drunken Home Invasion, Assault
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Two Oakland police officers have been implicated in a bizarre, drunken home invasion and assault case at the home of an Alameda County probation officer.
Oakland police officials are being tight-lipped about the incident, but two officers have been placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
According to the police report obtained by The East Bay Express, the home invasion happened last December. Olga Palafox-Cortez called 911 and told the dispatcher two men came into her house, and assaulted her. One of the men was armed with a gun. She and her husband fought the intruders and chased them out of the house. One got away, but the other was tackled by a neighbor and held until police arrived. That suspect, identified as Cullen William Faeth an Oakland police officer, was arrested for battery and public intoxication.
Officer Faeth has since been placed on administrative leave but police have declined to release the name of the second suspect in the alleged attack. In fact, the six-page incident report filed by one of the responding officers has had names, witnesses and information about the suspects removed, according to the East Bay Express.
In a statement, the Oakland Police said "The Oakland Police Department takes all allegations of misconduct involving our employees seriously. Ensuring internal investigations are swift, fair and objective is our priority."
Meantime, the case has been forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney for "possible criminal prosecution." Palafox-Cortez has retained an attorney with the Law Offices of John L. Burris which raises the possibility that a civil lawsuit against Officer Faeth and the Oakland Police Department may be in the works.
