2 killed, 3 injured in I-580 head-on crash near Tracy on Easter morning
TRACY -- Two people died and three were injured in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 580 near Tracy early Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after 2 a.m. on westbound I-580, near the Corral Hollow Road offramp.
A Honda Accord was traveling east on westbound 580 and struck a Kia Telluride head-on.
One of the vehicles ended up on its side and on fire. The Honda driver, an 18-year-old Antioch man, was ejected from the vehicle and died, according to the CHP. The driver of the Kia, a 32-year-old woman from Fort Bragg, was taken to a hospital and later died from her injuries.
Passengers in the Kia included a 35-year-old and a 2-month-old girl who both suffered major injuries and were hospitalized. A 4-year-old boy was also in the car and was hospitalized with minor injuries.
CHP closed westbound lanes until 5:46 a.m.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol factored in the crash, according to CHP.
