2 Dogs Rescued From San Jose Duplex Fire

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Two dogs were rescued from a two-alarm fire at a San Jose duplex Thursday afternoon, a fire captain said.

At about 1:40 p.m., firefighters responded to reports of a fire at a residence in the 800 block of East William Street, San Jose Fire Capt.  Christopher Salcido said.

Crews arrived within minutes and found two poodle-terrier mix dogs inside the garage of a three-story home, Salcido said.

Firefighters took the animals outside of the structure and resuscitated them, according to Salcido.

The blaze was quickly upgraded to a second alarm and spread to other areas of the home before it was knocked down at about 2:10 p.m., he said.

San Jose Animal Care and Services officials are caring for the dogs and Salcido said he didn't know if they will survive.

No other injuries were reported in the fire.

The American Red Cross was called to assist 19 displaced residents, who were not home at the time of the fire, according to Salcido.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
