Crews Mop Up 2-Alarm Grass Fire Near I-580 In Livermore

LIVERMORE (CBS SF) -- Crews were able to contain a 2-alarm grass fire that scorched an area near Interstate Highway 580 in Livermore Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was reported at about 12:45 p.m. near the Portola Avenue on-ramp to Highway 580, Alameda County Fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.

The fire covers about one acre but is being driven by high winds and growing. Firefighters called a second alarm response.

Aerial video taken of the fire at around 1:30 p.m. showed crews had put out the flames and were proceeding to douse the area blackened by the fire to prevent flare ups.

Livermore-Pleasanton Deputy Chief Joe Testa said the fire burned 2 acres. No one was injured and no structures were nearby.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
